The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Latinamerican Scoreborard: The impact of University-Industry Cooperation in Ecuador

One of the structural problems in Latin-American has been the lower innovative capacity and lower generation of economically exploitable knowledge. This phenomenon has been produced by the absence of government’s incentives and strategies in order to be competitive inside the Knowledge Based Economy. More concretely, political, institutional and social factors have contributed negatively within this reality. As a consequence, the knowledge generation in this region is insufficient not only to satisfy its necessities but also to be competitive in the global context. At difference, the developing regions have recognized the significance impact of R&D investment and Education in their sustainable growth.This report uses the methodology proposed by the European Commission in the study about the “European Innovation Scoreboard 2007”. Specifically, this methodology is adapted at the Latin-American reality. Measures of Science & Technology in Ecuador

More concretely, political, institutional and social factors have contributed negatively within this reality. As a consequence, the knowledge generation in this region is insufficient not only to satisfy its necessities but also to be competitive in the global context. At difference, the developing regions have recognized the significance impact of Science and Technology (S&T) and Education in their sustainable growth. In the Latin-American context, this analysis requires robust indicators that help to evidence the causes of this problematic. In this respect, the absence of harmonized politics and common variables that allows studying the evolution of S&T in the Latin-American region is the main limitation for this analysis. Based on that, this report brings an exploratory analysis that allows identifying the critical factors and the possible solutions of this S&T problematic. The Multipliers and Key Sectors of Entrepreneurship Spillover: An input-output approach

The Entrepreneurship Spillover evaluates the systemic effect of creating enterprises in different sectors and industries from a new firm created in a given sector. One way to estimate these Entrepreneurship Spillovers is doing an adaptation of the methodology applied by Dietzenbacher, (2002); Dietzenbacher and Los, (2002a,b) Diezenbacher and Volkerink (1998) that they used to determinate the Knowledge Spillover through R&D multipliers. In this regard, the objectives of this paper are: (a) to develop a methodology that allows calculating the concept of entrepreneurship spillover; (b) to identify the key sectors of entrepreneurship; and (c) to determinate the multipliers of business creation. Entrepreneurship Spillover and the determinants of Key Sectors for new business creation: An inter-sectorial approach

Whereas the knowledge spillover theory of entrepreneurship focuses on the diffusion of innovative output and knowledge filter among new firms and industries (Acts, et al., 2005; Audrescht, 2007), it has not been studied the phenomenon of entrepreneurship dissemination or entrepreneurship spillover among sectors. From an adaptation of the model of input-output matrix (Leontief, 1936; Dietzenbacher and Los, 2002) we develop a methodology that allows calculating the concept of entrepreneurship spillover. Besides, using intra-sectorial data from the 73 Spanish sectors, we empirically test the characteristics of the sectors with more entrepreneurship spillover. In short, the results clearly state that higher diversity and competition entails more entrepreneurship spillover. Soterramiento del ferrocarril y transformación urbanísticas en Valladolid

El día 1 de Octubre de 2002 el pleno del Excmo Ayuntamiento de Valladolid aprobó la firma del convenio para el soterramiento de las vías del ferrocarril de alta velocidad a su paso por Valladolid. Ciertamente esta es una fecha histórica para la ciudad, gestada no sin pocas dificultades y balbuceos, que abre enormes expectativas de futuro, pero que plantea alguna incertidumbre respecto a su financiación y sus efectos urbanísticos e inmobiliarios, ya que una gran parte de la obra se va a financiar con las plusvalías que genere la venta del suelo ocupado por RENFE. Esta subordinación, unida a la modesta participación de otras administraciones públicas –Ministerio de Fomento y Junta de Castilla y León- puede convertir a esta operación en un mero sembrado de edificios, y restar calidad al proyecto urbanístico que va a permitir el encuentro de dos ciudades, siglo y medio después de que, el mayor exponente de progreso de la época –el ferrocarril-, trazase una barrera que puso límite al oriente de la ciudad tradicional.Departamento de Geografí

Arquitectura excavada. Las bodegas de Baltanás Bien de Interés Cultural

Producción CientíficaLas bodegas de Baltanás constituyen uno de los conjuntos excavados periféricos más importante de la provincia de Palencia y de toda Castilla y León, no sólo por su numero; 374 bodegas, si no también por subuen estado de conservación. Las bodegas ocupan las laderas del cerro donde antiguamente se encontraba el castillo, construido en el último tercio del siglo IX. Actualmente no se reconoce ningún resto de aquella fortificación, salvo una esquina pétrea que pudiera corresponder a una de sus puertas. La primera referencia conocida de la existencia de las bodegas es del año 1543, fecha en la que se documenta la adquisición y tenencia del señorío de Baltanás. La actividad productiva y económica en torno al vino ha generado en los núcleos rurales espacios específicos destinados al almacenamiento y a la producción del vino que requerían de unas condiciones ambientales muy particulares. Esos espacios son las bodegas subterráneas. Son espacios excavados bajo el terreno arcilloso donde es posible garantizar unas condiciones de humedad y temperatura estables durante todo el periodo del año. Este fenómeno es debido a la atenuación de la onda térmica que se produce gracias a la inercia y a la humedad del terreno, de tal manera que el subsuelo aparece como un estabilizador térmico de las temperaturas ambientales externas. Las bodegas son construcciones substractivas que forman parte de la historia de la cultura tradicional. Constituyen un documento vivo de la actividad productiva vinícola y edificatoria de los siglos pasados al tiempo que atesoran un alto valor cultural, tangible e intangible. En el libro se documenta, estudia y analiza este conjunto de bodegas que ha sido declarado Bien de Interés Cultural por la Junta de Castilla y León, en la categoría de Conjunto Etnológico
